About the checker

What the AI Readiness Checker looks at

AI search tools can only recommend a page they are allowed to visit, can read properly and can understand. The checker runs 25 checks across six areas that decide this:

  • AI access: whether your robots.txt and page settings let the main AI crawlers visit the page, including the search bots from OpenAI, Anthropic and Perplexity.
  • Readability: whether the page loads correctly, responds quickly, declares its language and has enough text for an AI system to quote.
  • Structure: headings, title, meta description, canonical link, image descriptions, and the question, list and table formats that AI answers quote most easily.
  • Structured data: whether the page uses valid JSON-LD that tells machines who you are and what kind of page this is.
  • Trust: secure HTTPS, a visible publication or update date, and links to your About and Contact pages.
  • AI guides: an llms.txt file and a sitemap that help AI tools find your most important pages.

How the score works

Each area is weighted by how much it affects your chances of being cited, and the results add up to a score out of 100. A score of 90 or above means AI systems can reach, read and cite the page with ease. Below 50, the page is unlikely to appear in AI answers at all.

Some problems matter more than any amount of polish elsewhere. If AI search bots are blocked, or a page has too little text to quote, the score is capped until that is fixed, and the result tells you why.

What you get

Every check shows your score, a short summary and the fixes that will make the biggest difference, straight away and without signing up. If you want to keep the results or pass them to your developer, you can download a free PDF report. It includes every finding explained in plain English, an action plan in priority order and, where your page needs it, ready-made code for robots.txt rules, structured data and an llms.txt file.

Frequently asked questions

Is the AI Readiness Checker free?

Yes. Running a check and seeing your results is free and does not need an account. The PDF report is also free; we only ask for your email address so we can give you the download link.

Which AI crawlers does the checker look for?

It reads your robots.txt rules for 15 crawlers in three groups. Search and citation bots, such as OAI-SearchBot, Claude-SearchBot, PerplexityBot, Googlebot and Bingbot, decide whether your page can appear in AI answers. User-triggered bots, such as ChatGPT-User, visit a page when someone asks an AI assistant about it. Training bots, such as GPTBot and Google-Extended, collect content to train AI models. Blocking training bots is your choice and does not lower your score.

Does it check my whole website?

No. Each check looks at one page, along with the robots.txt, llms.txt and sitemap files of its website. Your home page, service pages and articles can score very differently, so it is worth checking each of your key pages. If you would like your most important pages reviewed together, with a full action plan, take a look at our GEO audit.

Why can my page open in a browser but not in the checker?

Firewalls and bot protection services, such as Cloudflare, often turn away automated visitors while letting people through. If our checker is blocked, AI crawlers may well be blocked too, even when your robots.txt allows them. Check your firewall or bot protection settings for rules that challenge or block bots.

What is llms.txt and do I need one?

llms.txt is a short plain-text file in the root of your website that introduces your business and lists your key pages for AI tools. It is a newer, optional standard, so it carries only a small part of the score. It is quick to add, though, and the PDF report includes a draft built from your own site when you do not have one.

Will a high score get my business mentioned in ChatGPT or Google AI Overviews?

A high score means you have removed the technical barriers that stop AI systems from reaching, reading and citing your page. Whether they actually recommend you also depends on your content, your reputation across the web and what your competitors offer, which no single page check can measure or guarantee.

What is KutolaBot?

KutolaBot is the name our checker uses when it visits a page, so you may see it in your server logs. It only reads publicly available pages and a few related files, once per check. If a website turns KutolaBot away, the checker tries again once as a standard web browser.

Do you store the pages I check?

Each result is saved for 24 hours so you can view it again or share the link, and then it is deleted automatically. Results only contain information from publicly available pages. You can read more in our Privacy Policy and Terms of Use.
